Eco-Swamp Tours Your Louisiana adventure awaits!!

You'll begin your journey by visiting our alligator snapping turtle exhibit and our amazing alligator ecohabitat with your Louisiana tour guides.

Thereafter, you will board the comfortable, canopied (and all-weather) Alligator Queen. The tour boat follows the winding Alligator Bayou into 13,000 acres of the Spanish Lake Basin and a wetland habitat of bayous, swamps and lakes. Your guides will explain wetlands ecology, show you native wildlife, and expound on the exiled Cajuns and the rich cultural legacy of the Spanish Lake Basin.

You'll see and be inspired by the beauty of a green, moss-draped alligator swamp and giantold-growth cypress trees hundreds of years old. You will marvel at the spectacular Cypress Flats, a lake of ancient cypress trees teeming with egrets, herons, ibis, cormorants and other bird species migrating along the Mississippi River Flyway.

You'll see lots of gators at Alligator Bayou, gliding through swamps, sunning on logs and on display in our brand-new ecohabitat, an exotic and visitor-friendly gator farm. You may see cavorting nutrias, darting dragonflies, careening Mississippi kites and many other resident species of both plant and animal. Be sure to bring your binoculars and camera!!

Our unique tour will take you deep into the heart of Louisiana.

This backwater swamp, a rich, complex and diverse habitat, was settled by Acadian, African, British, Canary Islander, Creole, French, German, Scottish, Irish and Spanish families who spiced up the culture of South Louisiana and created our legendary joie de vivre.

Experience our hospitality and a wilderness adventure you'll treasure forever.

Visit our History page for more about our cultures and the Preservation page to learn about our efforts to restore this beautiful backwater swamp.

Please contact us for more information.

Driving directions: From Baton Rouge or New Orleans, take I-10 to Exit 166 at Highland Road. Travel east (left from Baton Rouge, right from New Orleans) on La. Hwy. 42 (Highland Road) for half a block and turn right on East Perkins Road. Turn right again at traffic light at La. Hwy 928. Immediately after crossing over I-10, turn right on Alligator Bayou Road. See the 15-foot alligator pointing the way. We're on the left about a half mile after the road becomes gravel.
