School Tours
(For Students from K-College!)

Cruising into Louisiana’s most historic wetlands habitat is the perfect place to teach and celebrate our rich history, the beauty of the wilderness and the fish and wildlife living in the 13,000-acre Spanish Lake Basin. Alligator Bayou is on the Mississippi Flyway, so the swamp teems with resident and migratory birds. In warm weather, you’ll see ‘gators and snakes.

The fenced, covered Alligator Queen is appropriate for all ages and handicap-friendly. Tours on our 49-passenger barge are available year-round, and scheduling is flexible.

Our customized educational tours consist of:

  • Safe, hands-on experiences with native animals such as snakes,  a baby ‘gator, turtles and mammals
  • Narrative on wetlands ecology, wildlife, and Louisiana history
  • Science experiments in cooperation with instructors: ecology/environmental science

  • Your visit can also include:

  • Informative and fun presentations complete with hands-on artifacts: Native American, Cajun and other Louisiana cultures, music, ecology and science
  • Bag lunches on the bayou-side pavilion
  • One-pot meals, available by reservation, such as jambalaya, gumbo, etouffee or red beans & rice.

  • The authentic palmetto hut built by Native Americans is a thrill for school children.

Tour Guide Jim Ragland performs an experiment with eco-conservation.
