YOU WILL SEE a green, moss-draped alligator swamp, a 700-year-old cypress tree with five-foot-tall knees, and the spectacular Cypress Flats, a lake of ancient cypress trees teeming with egrets, herons, ibis, cormorants and hundreds of bird species migrating along the Mississippi River Flyway.
LOCATED IN PLANTATION COUNTRY, the Spanish Lake Basin is bordered by Bayou Manchac, an Indian short-cut from the Mississippi River to New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico.
